Fight > Flight
April 8th, 2012
The media likes to grab a story periodically and run with it for weeks at a time. These types of stories are rarely something positive. They usually have to do with something that will cause fear, rage, paranoia or controversy amongst the masses - typically inciting rallies, protests, mass vigils or other shit involving groups of emotional people. Well anyway, this post is a rant kind of explaining my stance on how individuals involved in self defense slayings should be handled.
If someone shoots, stabs or beats someone to death in self defense under the provisions of justifiable use of force laws, they should be detained until all the facts of the case are gathered and there is reasonable evidence to release them under the statutes of their respective states laws. In other words, if there is a good reason to believe that they acted in self defense and not just outright murdered someone, I do feel that a detainment of the perpetrator is justified with or without criminal charges until such evidence is gathered - either to release said individual or charge them with criminal charges. If someone uses enough force to kill another person, intentionally or instinctively in fear of their life, I do think that most rational people will understand and accept the need for their detainment, not just for their sake and safety, but to keep the peace with the rest of the community.
I do feel that just releasing an individual who killed another person until evidence is gathered to charge them or clear their name is the wrong way to go, for many reasons. It may be an inconvenience for someone who genuinely used lethal force to protect themselves or their family to be detained for a brief or extended period of time until the proper evidence is acquired, but that's just a common sense thing to do in my mind. If someone outright states that they killed the victim, they just admitted they killed another person, regardless of the circumstances. Unless there is evidence at the time of the incident to indicate that the suspect killed not in self defense, a detainment without charge is just good practice, both for the individual and for a plethora of legal and civil reasons. Some jerkoffs may try to cite the 5th, 14th or other amendments to the Constitution or some other piece of legislation to prevent their "false imprisonment", but they can just go suck it. Maybe it is time for a reform in the country, specifically regarding the Constitution. Not just for these lethal force issues, but for many other things that require blog posts of their own. Hell, if I was involved in such an incident, I would have no beef with law enforcement holding me until things get straightened out, as long as they are actively pursuing the incident and not just letting me wait months on in, but that somewhat segues into another issues that I feel will be a topic of discussion in the coming months and years in this country, so I will digress until then.
There has been a lot of rambling in this post and repeating of thoughts, but it is a rant. It's not supposed to be a thought-provoking, brilliantly written piece of literary work. Just take it as it is and don't think too much about it. Thank you for your time.

Back to Australia
March 7th, 2012
Berlin has been awesome so far. I have made some slight changes to my travel plans. Instead of heading to Czech Republic on Friday, I will be heading back to my vineyard in Australia. Apparently there has been some developments that require my attention. It's not a bad thing. I have been really promoting and pushing this business to be a success. When I get back down there, I will deal with what I have to and plan a trip to the United States for later in the month. I have an investors meeting for a solar panel manufacturing company I will be launching in California. I plan on making solar power more affordable and more readily available to a bigger market than my current competition. Also, in April I will be opening a solar heating products retail store in several locations in Germany using products from another manufacturer/distributor I am partnered with. If all goes well in California, I should be able to drop my current supplier and market my own products in Germany and in 40 states in the United States by the end of the year. I will keep you updated on my products and offer deep discounts for a limited time to my loyal readers when my product line goes live.
Peace,

Suspicion of Drug Running in Belgium
March 2nd, 2012
I took a train from London to Brussels, Belgium on Sunday. Instead of taking a direct train to Brussels, I took a train to Amsterdam, Netherlands and caught a connecting train about 45 minutes after my arrival. Upon crossing the border in Belgium, I was stopped by "Passport Control" at a border train station and escorted to a holding room. Apparently someone had spotted something in my backpack and reported it to authorities. It turns out there was an 8 pound bag of marijuana that magically found its way into my backpack. I did not even notice it. I suppose someone planted it in my bag when I left it unattended for 5 minutes while using the restroom at my stop in Amsterdam.
I was being detained for suspicion of drug trafficking. I was able to get a representative from the U.S. Embassy in Brussels to assist me in my predicament. I was released yesterday after being detained for 4 days. Supposedly there was video surveillance at the train station in Amsterdam that corroborated my story that I had no idea what the hell was going on. It turns out I was a victim of some sort of common mule operation. Distributors apparently place goods in the bags of unsuspected travelers and have them reacquired at the final destination, unknown to the traveler.
Anyway, I was treated well by both Belgium authorities and U.S. officials and was let go without any sort of restrictions on travel or marks on my record. I decided to continue with my trip. I left Brussels last night and am currently in Hamburg, Germany waiting for a train to Berlin. I have made a reservation for a hostel in Berlin for 4 days and should be arriving there in about 4 hours or so. I have some tentative plans for my stay in Berlin, mostly dealing with sightseeing and bar hopping. I plan on heading to Prague, Czech Republic on Friday (9th). Well, it's been an interesting trip thus far and I will report any other strange or otherwise noteworthy experiences in my next post.

I'm in London
February 23rd, 2012
I got bumped from one of my flights, so I just got into London about 3 hours ago. I have a 3-day reservation in a hostel near Hyde Park. In the morning I plan on roaming around the city to do some exploring. I don't have much of an itinerary, but I hope I can find some cool places to go and things to do. I plan on staying here until Sunday and then heading down to Brussels, Belgium and staying there for about 3 days. From there I will take a train to Berlin, Germany. Well, that's my current plan. Time for some sleep. I will keep you posted with any exciting things that may happen.

Upcoming Euro Trip
February 20th, 2012
After being in Australia for about 3 weeks, I have decided to go on a trip to Europe. I do have some business ventures going on in the United Kingdom and Germany, but am focusing my trip more on pleasure than business. I plan on traveling for about 8 weeks and making stops in at least 9 countries. I will be flying into Heathrow airport in London on Wednesday and will spend about 4 days visiting sights around England. I then plan on heading down to Germany for 2 weeks to have some fun. I have been to Germany several times in the past and lived there between the ages of 18 and 20.
The thing that pleases me the most is not what I see, but who I meet. I love staying in hostels and interacting with fellow travelers and sharing experiences with each other. It's also a good way to make some friends and find partners to hangout with when traveling alone. I'm not a big fan of museums and the typical tourist activities, although I have been to museums in the past in Europe. I enjoy immersing myself in the culture and mingling with the locals. Sure, I love architecture and history, but why focus on the past when we're living in the present. Our present will be history some day, so might as well experience NOW and enjoy the moment and be part of history.
Well, after Germany I'll probably head over to Czech Republic and hang out for a few days. After that it's still up in the air. Sometimes I just like winging it. I'm sure it will be a good time. I'm looking forward to visiting some countries I have not yet been to and meeting some cool people. I will keep you updated on my adventures once I get to the UK.
